Brigadoon Resurrected

BRIGADOON RESURRECTED

Game Specification (Community Working Doc)

Goal: Reconstruct a complete, buildable specification of Brigadoon (ROM 2.4b derivative, 1994–2017) from player memory, saved logs, and archived web pages then use that for an LLM-assisted rebuild.

How to contribute: Find the section you remember. Add what you know. Tag every claim with a confidence marker (below). Don’t delete anyone else’s entry if you disagree. Rather, add your version and flag it in §18 Disputed Memories. Verbatim text (from logs or archives) always beats memory.

Confidence tags — use these on every contribution:

Tag Meaning
[LOG] Verbatim from a saved client log or file — gold standard
[ARCHIVE] Verbatim from an archive.org snapshot of brigadoon.linex.com
[STOCK] Stock ROM 2.4b behavior, verifiable against the ROM source code
[MEM] Personal recollection — name yourself so we can follow up
[GUESS] Plausible reconstruction, not actually remembered
[TO DO] A task any contributor can pick up
[DUMP] Extracted from a file in the community’s dump folder (player-saved reference doc/build guide/practice-command capture). Treated as [LOG]-grade — it’s a saved file with real observed game output — but flagged separately here so contributors can trace it back to a specific source file pending cross-check.

2026-08-03 update: The dump folder (28 player-saved files — build guides, equipment logs, a race/class stat compilation) was processed and cross-referenced against this spec and against the real stock ROM 2.4b source (const.c/skills.c, verified directly this session). Every fact added below is cited to its source file. Nothing was guessed to fill a gap — fields with no dump or archive evidence are still marked (fill in). See §18 for two significant discrepancies this surfaced.

1. Vision & Ground Rules

  • Rebuild target: ROM 2.4b codebase (stock source still exists) restored with Brigadoon’s custom areas, classes, races, clans, skills, spells, and systems.
  • Fidelity goal: (discuss) — exact recreation where documented, faithful-in-spirit where memory is thin
  • What we will NOT change: We will discuss once we gather some momentum and good ideas.
  • What we’re open to modernizing: We will discuss once we flesh out the specification.

2. Source Artifacts Registry

Everything physical or digital that survives. Check your old hard drives, CD-R backups, and email attachments — zMUD/TinTin++/GMud logs, saved help files, screenshots, area files, anything.

All other custom area names checked, not found.

3. Engine Baseline & Deviations from Stock ROM 2.4b

Stock ROM 2.4b source is preserved (GitHub mirrors exist). Anything stock does not need to be reconstructed, only Brigadoon’s changes do. List every known deviation:

System Stock ROM behavior Brigadoon behavior Source/Tag
Level cap 91 (hero 92+, imm) No hard limit; level 500 considered max [ARCHIVE] [MEM]; corroborated [DUMP]: real observed levels to 317 (Shaman.doc totem list) and mob levels to 500 (300+ mobs.doc)
Classes 4 At least 14 (12 original + Shaman + Shadowknight) — count confirmed [MEM] 2026-08-03, see §18 [ARCHIVE] [MEM]; [DUMP] Shaman.doc, shadowknight.rtf
Races ~4 playable 39 (16 remort-only) per this spec; dump’s Race.doc names 38 [ARCHIVE] [MEM]; [DUMP] Race.doc
Clans flags only 7 full clans w/ ranks & clan skills [ARCHIVE]
PK open/flag-based Arena-only, no exp/eq loss [ARCHIVE]
Skill acquisition class-fixed Research system for cross-class skills/spells [ARCHIVE]; possibly corroborated by brigthief.wpd/Fire thief.doc showing a thief with mage-utility spells (detect magic/invis, armor, identify, protection, sanctuary) that don’t belong to any stock or custom thief spell list seen elsewhere — the most likely explanation is these were researched, not innate [DUMP]+[GUESS]
Armor/damage model Flat AC (4 numbers: pierce/bash/slash/magic), no separate “passive resist” or “durability” stat Custom model: Armor: N reduction, N max reduction, N passive resist, and N durability, plus a separate Affects passive resistance by N and Affects damage reduction by N item-affect system on top. The “durability” stat here is the same one the item-repair system (below) depletes and restores — confirmed [MEM] 2026-08-06, connecting a fact this spec already had (the dump’s identify captures) to the mechanic that actually uses it. [LOG]/[DUMP] — seen consistently across every identify capture in brigeq 01.rtf and dam red.rtf (hundreds of items, uniform format); [MEM] 2026-08-06
Item durability / repair (gold sink) No item degradation — obj->condition exists but is static/cosmetic, set once at load time, never decremented by combat Equipped items took damage during combat, scaled to the attacking mob’s level and the damage dealt, depleting the item’s durability stat. Once fully depleted, the item was automatically unequipped and dropped into inventory, unusable/un-wearable until repaired. Dedicated repair shops with a vendor NPC handled this; a repair <item> command fixed one item, repair all fixed everything in inventory, each costing gold per item — an explicit, ongoing money sink. [MEM] 2026-08-06
Currency Gold + silver Gold + silver + Diamonds as a third currency [LOG]/[DUMP] scribe info.rtf character sheet (“Diamonds: 1265”)
Weapon types 9 stock skills (axe/dagger/flail/mace/polearm/shield block/spear/sword/whip) Same 9 plus an “exotic” weapon category covering non-standard weapons (six-shooters, phasers, hatchets, thrown axes — see themed-zone equipment in §16) [LOG]/[DUMP] andrewbrigeq.doc
Multi-hit skills second attack, third attack (stock cap) Extended to fourth/fifth/sixth attack across multiple classes [DUMP] — paladin.doc (4th/5th), Shaman.doc/samubrig.wpd/brigmonk.wpd (6th)
(add)

New observation not yet in this table’s original draft: every class’s practice sheet that reaches level 175 has exactly one capstone ability gated at level 175 (paladin: divine restoration; mage: energy breath; cleric: wrath of god; thief: acquire; samurai: honour; illusionist: simulacrum; scribe: scribe3; shadowknight: unholy defense). This looks like a deliberate design tier, not coincidence — possibly the “second remort” or a mid-game gate. [DUMP]+[GUESS], worth a [MEM] confirmation from anyone who remembers what unlocked at 175.

4. Character Creation

  • Login sequence text (verbatim if anyone has a log): (fill in)
  • Stats & rolling method: (fill in)
  • Hometowns / starting locations: (fill in)
  • Alignment / ethos choices: (fill in)
  • Customization (“group-based” stock ROM creation? modified?): Group-based, matching stock ROM’s default/base-group creation model. Every class practice sheet in the dump shows the identical pattern stock ROM uses — a <class> default group (cost 40 for most classes, e.g. paladin default 40, mage default 40, cleric default 40) bundled with several smaller skill groups (weaponsmaster 20, beguiling 4, benedictions 5, etc.), each with its own creation-point cost, and an explicit remaining creation-point total shown at the top (e.g. Fire thief.doc: “Creation points: 25”; scribe info.rtf: “Creation points: 14”). [DUMP], cross-checked against stock ROM 2.4b’s actual const.c group-cost model (verified directly against source this session) — the structure is a match; the specific per-group costs differ from stock in places (see §3, and note Brigadoon’s paladin has weaponsmaster 20 available at all, where the stock ROM convention many derivatives use restricts weaponsmaster to warrior-type classes only).

5. Races (38 confirmed via dump; spec estimates 39 total, 16 remort-only)

Race.doc [DUMP] gives a single master table with Str/Int/Wis/Dex/Con (base(max)) and innate abilities for every race below. Per-race template blocks are expanded only where the dump gave more than the summary line (Djinni, Phoenix, Fire Dragon).

Source note: all rows below are [DUMP] from Race.doc unless otherwise tagged. “Remort?” is inferred [GUESS] from thematic tier (elemental/outsider/undead/draconic races assumed remort-only per this spec’s “16 remort-only” claim) — not confirmed row-by-row, flag any you know for certain.

Cap rule [DUMP] Race.doc: 25 is the highest a race/class combo can normally take a stat; combos that would exceed 25 may be pushed to 30 via spells/items. Some racial abilities are noted as uncatalogued (e.g. faerie unlisted innate hide chance).

Per-class stat modifiers (applies on top of the race base above) [DUMP] Race.doc:

Class Modifier
Warrior +3 Str
Mage +3 Int
Cleric +3 Wis
Thief +3 Dex
Scribe +2 Int
Illusionist +2 Int, +1 Wis
Monk +2 Str, +1 Int

6. Classes (at least 14 confirmed — 12 original + Shaman + Shadowknight; class count resolved 2026-08-03, see §18)

Class Prerequisite(s) Description
Warrior None [DUMP] warriorbrig.wpd (partial/garbled): weaponsmaster-based default group; berserk, fourth attack progression
Cleric None [DUMP] brigcleric.wpd: full cure/protection/healing spell line to level 99 (change sex); custom capstone “wrath of god” (175), “false orders” (75), “resurrect” (42), “agitate wounds” (66)
Thief None [DUMP] brigthief.wpd/Fire thief.doc: backstab-based default; custom “circlestab” (33, mid-combat weaker backstab — no need to disengage/re-sneak, confirmed [MEM] 2026-08-05), “acquire” (175, capstone — believed steal-like, [MEM] 2026-08-05 offered as “I think,” not fully confirmed); also shows apparent researched mage-utility spells (see §3)
Mage None [DUMP] brig mage.doc: standard ROM-style elemental/utility spell groups; custom “clarity of the mind” (10), “energy breath” (175)
Scribe Mage [DUMP] scribe info.rtf: full mage spell list to level 99 plus scroll-writing track (“scribe”/“scribe2”/“scribe3” at 175); shows scroll-vendor NPCs (“Rain,” “Tatorious,” “God shop,” a wizard at the library in Old Thalos, a wizard in Midgaard, “braheem”)
Wizard Mage [DUMP] fiend wizard.doc: extended arcane tree beyond stock mage — blink (15), flare (29), frostbite (30), thunderbolt (33), counterspell (47), forcewave (50), acid spray (52), blizzard (55), firestorm (58), deflection (63); “deep meditation” skill (31). Class-wide mechanic confirmed [MEM] 2026-08-05: cast more successfully than base Mage on shared spells — specifically framed as landing spells (charm person was the example given) against mobs somewhat above the caster’s own level, where a Mage would fail more often. In stock ROM’s own save mechanic, spell resistance is driven by victim->level − caster's effective level; a Wizard-specific bonus here would functionally mean Wizard’s effective level (for save purposes only) runs higher than actual level. Magnitude confirmed [MEM] 2026-08-07: effective casting level is 1.5x real level at level 1, stepping down linearly to 1.25x by the level-70 midpoint, then holding flat at 1.25x for the remainder of the 140-level range (the bonus never converges back to 1.0x).
Berserker Warrior [DUMP] Phoenix berserker.doc: magnified damage (6), third attack (8), berserk (15), fourth attack (18), whirlwind (20), fifth attack (28), melee (31). Class-wide passive mechanic confirmed [MEM] 2026-08-05: native hitroll/damroll scaled up the less armor worn — necklaces and rings were free, but real armor slots (chest, leggings, etc.) actively reduced the bonus, creating a genuine light-armor-vs-damage tradeoff distinct from the “berserk” skill itself.
Samurai Warrior [DUMP] samubrig.wpd: swordsmanship-centric progression to sixth attack (66); custom capstone “honour” (175). Confirmed [MEM] 2026-08-06: dual wield had a two-handed grip mode that hit notably harder — probably double damage — than normal dual wield. Swordsmanship made the Samurai hit much harder specifically with sword and exotic weapons (not a flat class-wide bonus across all weapon types).
Monk Cleric + Warrior [DUMP] brigmonk.wpd (garbled): multi-attack track to sixth attack alongside cleric-style cure/protection spells; consistent with “unarmed, up to several attacks/round” signature ability described in this spec’s own template. Confirmed [MEM] 2026-08-05: rewarded unarmed play specifically — many attacks per round, but explicitly no weapon.
Paladin Cleric + Warrior [DUMP] paladin.doc/new paladin.doc: innate “lay hands” (100% at level 1); custom “divine restoration” (175), “holy armor” (54, second revision only), fourth/fifth attack (50/66); full cleric-style benediction/healing spell line to level 130 (renewal)
Illusionist Mage + Thief [DUMP] illusionist.rtf: mage-style spell tree plus illusion-specific spells (camoflage 16, illusion of grandeur 56); custom capstone “simulacrum” (175)
Ninja Thief + Warrior Confirmed [MEM] 2026-08-05 (still no dump file for Ninja — this is the only real data point for the class beyond its stat modifier): could throw weapons — believed to work with any weapon, not just purpose-built throwing weapons — and a thrown weapon would eventually be consumed/used up and disappear after enough uses.
Shaman (confirmed 2026-08-03 as a real class not in the original roster — see §18) Cleric? [GUESS] [DUMP] Shaman.doc: entirely custom totem/spirit subsystem (healing, protection, restorative, damage, weapon totems) running to level 317 — by far the deepest single class writeup in the dump. Prime weapon is mace. Totem mechanic confirmed [MEM] 2026-08-05: a totem was created by casting a spell, then persisted for a duration, discharging its effect on a recurring timer before disappearing — not a one-shot buff or a permanent fixture. Healing totem restored hp (presumably on that same tick). Protection totem granted a skin-type damage-reduction effect named after a metal (e.g. “iron skin”) — confirmed there were multiple such skins named after different metals, implying a tiered or varied set of protection effects, not just one. Possibly related to this game’s real stock stone skin spell (Paladin 43/Mage 25/Scribe 40), possibly a distinct family of its own — not confirmed either way. Restorative totem cured afflictions, on the model of cleric’s cure poison. Damage and weapon totems remain unknown — user specifically could not recall the distinction between the two; not guessed at.
Shadowknight (confirmed 2026-08-03 as a real class not in the original roster — see §18) Cleric + Warrior? [GUESS], evil-mirror of Paladin [DUMP] shadowknight.rtf: innate “pain touch” (100% at level 1, mirrors Paladin’s lay hands); evil-flavored spell line (cause wounds instead of cure, harm, poison, curse, drain life, wraith form); custom capstone “unholy defense” (175); other customs: vampiric blade (27), fear (34), demonfire (45), terror (45), soul kiss (130), vorpal blade (52), stasis (61)

(Per-class detail templates below are filled only where dump data exists; fields with no evidence are left as (fill in) per this spec’s own convention — see §8/§9 for full skill/spell tables.)

7. Remort System

  • How remorting worked (level required, what carried over, what reset): Level required: 121 [MEM].
  • Possible new lead: every class’s level-175 capstone ability (see §3) may relate to a second remort tier or post-remort gate — no direct evidence, flagging as [GUESS] for someone to confirm or refute.

10. Research System (cross-class skills/spells)

  • How research worked (command syntax, cost, limits, success rates): (fill in)
  • What could NOT be researched: (fill in)
  • Possible evidence: brigthief.wpd/Fire thief.doc show a thief with a block of mage-utility spells (detect magic/invis/poison, armor, identify, protection evil/good, sanctuary, stone skin) that match no known thief default or custom spell list — the most likely explanation is these were acquired via the research system described in §3, but no direct confirmation of the mechanic itself was found in any dump file. 11. Clans (7)

No dump file directly addresses clans. Left as-is per original template — (fill in) for all 7.

12. Leveling, Exp & Level 500

  • Exp formula: Does anyone know how this worked specifically? Partial data point found: scribe info.rtf shows a real character sheet — level-1 djinni scribe, 14 creation points, “Experience per level: 2050,” with a live readout of “Experience: 2460 (2460 tnl).” This is concrete enough to reverse-engineer against once someone wants to take it on — stock ROM 2.4b’s own exp_per_level() formula scales per-level cost by creation points spent and a race/class multiplier (verified directly against source this session); Brigadoon’s number could plausibly derive from the same shape of formula with different constants. [DUMP] + [GUESS] for the formula-shape connection.
  • Confirmed [MEM] 2026-08-06: Dragons and Djinni were both “big utility” races, and all of them ran over 2000 exp/level — consistent with the Djinni Scribe’s recorded 2050 sitting right at the low edge of that bucket. Dragons specifically were recalled as running ~2100–2300 exp/level, reflecting how strong their racial kit (breath weapons, stat spreads, class-like abilities such as Mithril Dragon’s magnified damage or Skeletal Dragon’s deep meditation) was relative to a normal race. Not a single exact number — a recalled range, not yet nailed down further.
  • Corroboration for the level-500 claim: real skill/spell data confirms functioning content at least to level 317 (Shaman.doc totem list) and mob levels to 500 (300+ mobs.doc), consistent with (though not proof of) the 500 cap claim. [DUMP]

15. World Atlas — Areas & Zones

The biggest lift. One entry per area. Verbatim room descriptions from logs are treasure — paste them into §18 and link them here.

Methodology note (2026-08-03): the “Stock ROM area file” column comes directly from the actual stock ROM 2.4b area/*.are files (49 real playable areas, read directly from the working ROM 2.4b codebase this project is rebuilding on top of) — not memory or archive. Cross-referencing those against the dump resolved several open questions (Old Thalos is stock; Elemental Canyon, Plains of the North, Olympus, New Thalos, Midgaard are all stock).

2026-08-03 update #2: this section was rebuilt again against a full [LOG]-grade area list — a verbatim, dated (8/4/2005) master area registry contributed by a project member, listing Low/High level, Author, Area name, and (for some) movement directions from a common reference point. This is exactly the “Area list” artifact §2 already referenced as “not yet incorporated” — it now is. Being a direct game-sourced list rather than reconstructed from equipment logs, it supersedes the level ranges inferred in the previous pass wherever they differ, and confirms/corrects builder credits across nearly every stock area too. Tagged [LOG] throughout §15b below (upgraded from [DUMP], per this spec’s own tag hierarchy — [LOG] is verbatim-from-a-saved-file, which this is).

15a. Stock ROM 2.4b areas (49 total, from the real area/*.are files)

Every one of these ships with stock ROM and does not need to be reconstructed as new content — only note where Brigadoon changed one. The new “Brigadoon level (8/4/2005 log)” column comes from the [LOG] area list; where it’s blank, the area wasn’t on that list (may not have existed yet, may have been cut, or simply wasn’t logged that day). Two real, significant deviations surfaced — both areas kept their stock builder credit but were completely re-leveled into high-level endgame content, flagged below. Every other stock area’s level range on the log matches its stock header exactly, including builder name — strong evidence Brigadoon left the rest of the stock world essentially untouched.

15b. Custom (Brigadoon-only) areas

All entries below are from the [LOG] 8/4/2005 area list unless noted, cross-referenced against equipment/mob evidence from the dump where available. Directions are transcribed verbatim from the log’s “Directions” column (movement from a shared reference point) — not yet decoded into a real map for most entries, but preserved exactly since they’re real routing data.

Reference point identified (2026-08-03) [MEM] + [STOCK]: the reference point is a custom Clan Hall, one room up from the real stock ROM room “The Cross Roads” (midennir.are, vnum 3502) — the junction where the road east out of Midgaard splits toward Moria/the Dwarven Kingdom (north), Thalos (south), and continues east toward New Thalos. This was confirmed, not guessed: the log’s own entry for Midgaard gives d6w from the reference point, and walking the real stock map — down from 3502, then west through City Entrance (3503) → Outside East Gate (3053) → Inside East Gate (3041) → Main Street (3016) → Main Street (3015) → Market Square (3014) — is exactly 6 wests. Vanilla midennir.are has no “up” exit at 3502, so the Clan Hall itself is a Brigadoon-added room grafted onto this existing stock junction, not a stock ROM room.

Area Author Level range Directions (verbatim) Corroborating dump evidence Notes
Haunted House Rain 1–10

Sesame Street Lenny 35–50 d7wn [MEM 2026-08-03] ✅ file found — see §15c Traced against the real stock map: 7 wests then north from the Clan Hall lands exactly on The Bakery (vnum 3009, midgaard.are), which has no north exit in vanilla stock — a clean graft point. The found file’s own entrance room (“Bus Stop”) exits south to leave the zone, consistent with entering northward from The Bakery.

Deep Space Nine Kraul 50–85 d4s4w3nwnn andrewbrigeq.doc (“Jem’Hadar Phaser,” level 85 — fits exactly at the top of this range) This is the “unnamed Star Trek reference” from the previous pass — now named. Previously mis-associated with the WarCraft II zone; corrected.

Nightmare/Christmas Dominiq All oogiedir.rtf (mob “Oogie,” holiday-event log fragment), 300+ mobs.doc This is the “Halloween/holiday event area” from the previous pass — now named. Despite “Christmas” in the name, the Oogie/“Happy Holidays” evidence suggests a Nightmare Before Christmas-style crossover, not purely a Christmas theme

Still unresolved from the previous pass, not on this log at all: “Flowal” (the flower-shop reference from Brigequipzarc.xls) doesn’t match any area name above — still genuinely unclear whether it’s its own zone, a shop inside an existing one, or simply not on this particular list. Left open for now.

15c. Publicly-available custom areas to be added

(Reserved — placeholder for the custom .are files found outside this project’s own logs/memory. Add each here with its source/license before merging, so provenance stays traceable: filename, where it was found, original author/credit if known, and which working list above it’s meant to satisfy — e.g. “does this fill in one of the 15b rows above, or is it wholly new content?”)

Area Source found Original author/credit Fills which 15b row (if any)? Notes
Lenny’s House ROM Area Sanctuary, ansalon.net/area/lennysho.are.txt (checked 2026-08-03) Lenny §15b “Lenny’s House” Exact match. File header: Name “Lenny’s House”, Credits “{15 20} Lenny”, vnums 700–799 — no conflict with any stock area vnum range. Saved to custom-areas/found/lennysho.are.txt. Mob-level curve analyzed and found comparable to stock ROM’s sub-51 power law (actual mob levels 15–26); see [[Analysis - Public Domain Area Level Curve Comparison]].
Sesame Street ROM Area Sanctuary, ansalon.net/area/sesamest.are.txt (checked 2026-08-03) Lenny §15b “Sesame Street” Exact match. File header: Name “Sesame Street”, Credits “[35 50] Lenny”, vnums 24000–24099 — no conflict. Saved to custom-areas/found/sesamest.are.txt. Mob-level curve analyzed and found comparable to stock ROM’s sub-51 power law (actual mob levels 35–51, tightest match of the four found areas); see [[Analysis - Public Domain Area Level Curve Comparison]].
Divided Souls ROM Area Sanctuary, ansalon.net/area/divsouls.are.txt (checked 2026-08-03) Ydri §15b “Divided Souls” Probable, not exact. File header: Name “Divided Souls”, Credits “{45 90} Ydri” — same name and builder as our 8/4/2005 log, but the log says 45–120 and this file says 45–90. Likely a different revision by the same builder rather than a byte-identical copy. Saved to custom-areas/found/divsouls.are.txt pending a decision on whether to use it as-is or treat it as a reference to re-level. Parsed mob data confirms the discrepancy: actual mob levels run 30–100 (not 45–90 or 45–120) — tracks stock ROM’s curve within ±18% up to level 60, then self-escalates to 5–9× stock’s extrapolated floor by level 100; see [[Analysis - Public Domain Area Level Curve Comparison]].
Drakyri Isle ROM Area Sanctuary, ansalon.net/area/drakyri.are.txt (checked 2026-08-03) Ydri §15b “Drakyri Isle” Probable, not exact. Same caveat as Divided Souls — file header says Credits “{65 90} Ydri” vs. our logged 75–100. Same builder, different revision. Saved to custom-areas/found/drakyri.are.txt. Parsed mob data: actual mob levels run 63–100 (close to the header’s 65–90 floor, not the logged 75), and this is the more aggressively-scaled of the two Ydri areas — 5–10× stock’s HP floor and 2–4× its damage floor by level 100, implying a player-power curve well beyond stock’s own formulas; see [[Analysis - Public Domain Area Level Curve Comparison]].
Abyss ROM Area Sanctuary, ansalon.net/area/abyss2.are.txt (checked 2026-08-03) Anon (not “Taslhof”) §15b “Abyss” — does not fill it Checked and rejected. Same area name, but Credits “{30 50} Anon” doesn’t match our logged “Taslhof, 50–60.” A different, unrelated area. Not downloaded, not saved anywhere. Recorded here so this dead end isn’t re-investigated.

Filled in for the four §15c found areas (2026-08-03), using the confirmed reference point above — connections below are traced against the real stock ROM map, not guessed at random, but only Drakyri Isle has a logged route to anchor the trace to. Tag every connection claim by its actual confidence, not by how specific it sounds.

Area: Drakyri Isle

  • Level range: 75–100 (logged) / 63–100 (actual, per [[Analysis - Public Domain Area Level Curve Comparison]]). Builder: Ydri.
  • Stock ROM/Midgaard-derived or custom? Custom, entered via a portal object (“enter pool”), not a walkable door — consistent with the found file itself having zero exits leaving its own vnum block (11800–11899).
  • Connections: [STOCK]-traced, [GUESS] for the exact portal room. Logged route is d7ess, then enter pool. Walking the real stock map from the Clan Hall: down to The Cross Roads (3502) → east ×7 lands exactly on “Near the Sands of Sorrow” (3531, midennir.are) — a desert room on the Midgaard–New Thalos road whose own flavor text already says “to your south, the Sands of Sorrow stretch on for miles,” but which has no south exit in vanilla stock. The remaining ss (2×south) has nowhere to go on the real map as shipped — the strong implication is that Brigadoon added two custom rooms south of 3531, ending at a pool/oasis in the desert that portals to Drakyri Isle. The east-count (7) is an exact match to a real stock corridor; the south leg is inference, not confirmed.
  • Notable rooms/mobs/items: not yet captured beyond §8/§9/§16 entries already in the spec.

Area: Divided Souls

  • Level range: 45–120 (logged) / 30–100 (actual, per [[Analysis - Public Domain Area Level Curve Comparison]]). Builder: Ydri (same as Drakyri Isle).
  • Stock ROM/Midgaard-derived or custom? Custom. Zero exits leave its own vnum block (11600–11799) in the found file — likely also portal-entered, same pattern as Drakyri Isle.
  • Connections: [MEM] 2026-08-07, implemented. User recalled the real entrance directly: an east exit from room 322 (“Grassy foothills,” plains.are) leads into Divided Souls’ entry room (11600). Wired as a two-way door (322 east ↔︎ 11600 west, area/plains.are + area/divsouls.are). This replaces an earlier unconfirmed placeholder portal that had been guessed onto Market Square (room 3014, up exit) before this connection was known — that placeholder has been removed. The adjacency to Drakyri Isle’s vnum block (11800–11899) noted below is still just a proximity observation, not a second confirmed route.
  • Notable rooms/mobs/items: not yet captured.

Area: Lenny’s House

  • Level range: 15–20 (logged), 15–26 (actual). Builder: Lenny (same as Sesame Street).
  • Stock ROM/Midgaard-derived or custom? Custom. One real door exit in the found file: Foyer (#713) → west → vnum 14884 (external-host artifact, not a Brigadoon connection — see below).
  • Connections: [MEM] 2026-08-07, implemented. User recalled the real entrance directly: a north exit from room 3133 (“Emerald Avenue,” midgaard.are) leads into Lenny’s House’s Foyer (713). Wired as a two-way door (3133 north ↔︎ 713 south, area/midgaard.are + area/lennysho.are). Vnum 14884 does not fall inside any of the 48 real stock ROM 2.4b area files in this codebase (highest stock vnum anywhere is 10599) — confirmed to be an artifact of whichever other game originally hosted this file on the ROM Area Sanctuary archive, not evidence of Brigadoon’s own layout. The earlier-noted coincidence (vanilla ROM’s free 700–799 vnum gap between stock Ofcol and stock Olympus matching this file’s declared block) turned out to be exactly right.
  • Notable rooms/mobs/items: not yet captured.

Area: Sesame Street

  • Level range: 35–50 (logged), 35–51 (actual, tightest match of the four found areas). Builder: Lenny (same as Lenny’s House).
  • Stock ROM/Midgaard-derived or custom? Custom. One real door exit in the found file: Bus Stop (#24000) → south → vnum 14895 (see note below — this is the file’s external exit out to whatever hosted it originally, not necessarily Brigadoon’s own entrance direction).
  • Connections: [MEM] 2026-08-03, corroborated against the real stock map. Route recalled as d7wn — down to The Cross Roads, 7×west, then north. Traced against the actual midgaard.are/midennir.are room graph: down+6w from the Clan Hall reaches Market Square exactly (already confirmed above), continuing one more west reaches Main Street (3013), and north from there lands exactly on The Bakery (vnum 3009) — a dead-end stock shop with only a south exit in vanilla, so a north graft there conflicts with nothing. Directionally consistent with the found file’s own Bus Stop exiting south to leave the zone (north-in / south-out is coherent). This is now the best-supported connection of any of the four found areas.
  • Notable rooms/mobs/items: not yet captured.
  • Source/Tag: ______

17. NPCs, Lore & Culture

  • World lore / backstory (the land of Thera + Brigadoon-specific lore): (fill in)
  • Famous NPCs: “Sheba” (a well-equipped, apparently long-time player, per full worn-equipment listing in brigeq 01.rtf). Vendor/NPC names surfaced: “Rain,” “Tatorious,” “braheem,” wizards at “the library in Old Thalos” and in “Midgaard,” an “Alchemist” in “olympus” and “Athena.” [DUMP]
  • Player culture: running jokes, famous events, legendary players, channels & socials: Recurring holiday/seasonal events are well-attested — Thanksgiving-themed items (brigeq 01.rtf: “turkey feathers thanksgiving05,” “turkey caruncle growth thanksgiving06”), a Halloween/Nightmare Before Christmas-flavored mob “Oogie” tied to a “’Happy Holidays” event log fragment (oogiedir.rtf). Combined with the themed zones in §15 (Wild West, medieval Agincourt, WarCraft, Star Trek, Dinosaurs, Pirate Ship), the clearest cultural throughline is heavy use of pop-culture/historical crossover zones and recurring seasonal events — this is worth stating explicitly in the spec’s lore section even without verbatim backstory text, since it’s a real, dump-confirmed pattern rather than a guess about any single fact. [DUMP] + [GUESS] for the “pattern” framing.
  • Custom socials / channels (gossip, auction, etc. — any custom ones?): (fill in)
  • Economy note: a third currency, Diamonds, existed alongside gold/silver (see §3). [DUMP] scribe info.rtf

18. Open Questions & Disputed Memories

Question / dispute Version A (who) Version B (who) Resolution
How many classes does Brigadoon actually have? This spec’s §6 originally listed 12. The dump’s Shaman.doc and shadowknight.rtf both document complete, deep, independent classes (Shaman: full totem system to level 317; Shadowknight: full evil-paladin-mirror kit to level 175) that appear in no other class’s writeup as a subtype or reskin. This spec (orig.): 12 total, 8 remort [DUMP]: at least 14 (12 + Shaman + Shadowknight) Resolved [MEM] 2026-08-03: confirmed at least 14 real classes — Shaman and Shadowknight are canon, not renamed variants or later additions someone missed. §3/§6 updated accordingly. Still open: whether 14 is the exact total or a floor (i.e., could there be a 15th/16th undocumented sibling class the same way Shaman/Shadowknight were undocumented until the dump surfaced them?) — flag anyone who can confirm the full class-select menu text.
Brigequipzarc.xls structure recovered, data not. The file’s own metadata reveals 8 categorized sheets (armor/clothing, weapons, wands-staves-scrolls, rings-float-light-keys-junk, potions-pills-food, containers, and mobs) compiled by a player “Anton” — but this environment has no real spreadsheet reader, only raw string extraction, so cell/row/column structure is scrambled and unusable as-is. Needs a human with Excel or LibreOffice to open the actual file and re-export each sheet as CSV/text. Given it has a dedicated “Mobs” sheet, this is likely the single highest-value unresolved artifact in the whole dump — probably worth prioritizing over transcribing more of brigeq 01.rtf’s raw item dump.
Is “Old Thalos” a distinct custom area or a naming variant of stock ROM’s “New Thalos”? Resolved (§15a): Old Thalos is a real stock ROM area in its own right (file mirror.are, vnum 5300–5399), separate from both stock Thalos (thalos.are) and stock New Thalos (newthalos.are) — all three exist simultaneously in stock ROM. [DUMP] scribe info.rtf confirms Brigadoon used it.
Is the spec’s spell-checklist entry “resurrection” the same spell the dump calls “resurrect” (Cleric, level 42)? This spec: “resurrection” [DUMP] brigcleric.wpd: “resurrect” Likely the same spell, spec entry should probably be renamed — low-stakes, flagging for whoever edits §9 next
(add)
